Swedish Latte Dads

Swedes aren’t really familiar with the American concept of ”soccer moms”. There is, however, a total opposite to the women driving SUV:s and taking care of entire families while decorating their giant homes. It’s a very Swedish phenomenon, so established in the public’s mind that it soon will be included in dictionaries: the “Latte Dads” (latte-pappor in Swedish). Explore West Sweden decided to dig deeper into this breed of urbanized fathers staying home for months and years with their kids. Because, as CNN noted when they last went to Stockholm, you see a lot of men sipping coffee with one hand and rocking strollers with the other.

Gothenburg – The Christmas City

Gothenburg is putting on her Christmas finest just for you. From 12th November central Gothenburg is transformed into the Christmas City, starting with the opening of the traditional Christmas market at Liseberg Amusement Park, and the illumination of the white fairy lights along the Lane of Light. The glittering Christmas illuminations in the Lane of Light stretch three kilometers from Liseberg amusement park, past Götaplatsen, along Avenyn, the city’s main boulevard, and all the way to down to the city’s harbor.

Shops and boutiques along the Lane of Light and neighboring shopping districts, are decked out in their Christmas finery, and open every day of the week. City restaurants get into the seasonal spirit too with mouth-watering julbord, a festive smörgåsbord, and being Gothenburg, it is often served with a maritime twist. Also, don’t miss the many bustling Christmas markets within the city as well as in the surrounding countryside.

Treehouse Getaway

As a little kid we all built forts out of couch cushions and dreamed of our family living just like the Swiss Family Robinson above the rest of the world in the trees. Well now that dream can be brought to life.

Yes, as adults we can live amongst the majestic oak trees in ‘Seventh Heaven’.  ‘Seventh Heaven’ is the latest addition to the treetop house hotels in Ugglum.  The hotel at the Islanna Café & Lantkök, Ugglum. The brand new treehouse has a large balcony that lets you grab your sleeping bag and sleep under the stars! Word has it that they even hoist breakfast up to you in a basket!

This treehouse should be opening soon but in the meanwhile you and your loved ones can stay at the existing tree house Hotel Andrum outside Falköping.

Fairytale Weddings in Lidköping

Lacko Castle

Läckö Castle is best known as De la Gardie’s magnificent castle/mansion on the shores of Lake Vänern. The castle has become an increasingly desired space for couples seeking to get married in the romantic town. Not only do your wedding attendees get to enjoy the enthralling landscape and architecture but the summer season offers the visitor stimulating thematic shows from art to the history of Swedish culture with historical themes such as everyday life, festivals or fashion.  There is a fantastic restaurant on site for your guests or you could also stay nearby in the romantic Bjertorp Manor.

The castle’s chapel, where ceremonies are often held, is a technical masterpiece over 400 years old and filled with ornately detailed antiques. The castle recently just opened May 1st and will be only open till September 30th. Be sure to put this destination on your list of places to tie the knot as it is a win/win for anyone and everyone!

Way Out West: The XX, Local Natives, La Roux…

Image Via Way Out West

Winter is brutal. Which is why we focus on the positive, like the warmth of Summer, the unbelievable sunshine and the fast approaching Way Out West Festival this year! Yes, we realize August seems very far away; however, Way out West just announced some of their headliners and the show is bound to be epic.  The headliners include Local Natives, an L.A. based band that has been making some serious waves. We absolutely love their single “Airplanes” a sweet love song about pining after love lost.

Also on the bill is the always high energy Brit pop star, La Roux, we recommend her song “Bulletproof” which feels like a ‘ just broke up with my significant other and I am fine’ anthem.  The big players include LCD Soundsystem and indie veterans Pavement. Though the band we really, really, really CANNOT wait to see has to be The XX, the Lo-Fi pop four set took New York City by storm, playing to full houses of hipsters nationwide. We say early bird gets the worm, or the tickets, er? Either way, we’ll see you there.
