California resident Eva Crose won a “road trip of a lifetime” in the Car Plus Vacation Contest presented by West Sweden, Volvo Overseas Delivery, and VisitSweden. Eva and her husband Gregory just returned from their long-awaited trip to Western Sweden, where they spent ten days touring the region in a rented Volvo. We called her up to hear about her trip.
So first of all, tell us a little about your trip to West Sweden.
Wow—everything was absolutely wonderful! The trip was very well arranged, the weather was perfect, and the accommodations were exemplary. And just seeing so much green and water all around us was very relaxing. We just had a wonderful time.
The trip coincided with your 30th wedding anniversary. How did you celebrate it?
We couldn’t have asked for a better timing. We never had a honey moon so this was very special—a 30-year wait, but well worth waiting for! We had a wonderful celebration with dinner at a very nice restaurant called Palace.
I’ve seen your itinerary and I am envious—you traveled all around the region! What was your most memorable moment in Sweden?
For me it was when we were on Fjällbacka. We stayed at such a beautiful place, a two bedroom condo overlooking the sea and all the beautiful parked ships there. It was just very peaceful and elegant. The atmosphere of the area was very relaxed and everybody was just milling around having a good time. It was the type of place that you dream of spending your summers in.
You are a trained nutritionist. How would you describe the food in West Sweden?
The food was wonderful—light flavors, healthy, and well prepared. I especially liked the freshness of the ingredients, and it was also very elegant and well put together. At each place we went to I tried to order fresh seafood; we had for example trout, salmon, and oysters.
Any memorable meals?
At the Bjertorps Castle we had a superb five-course meal with wine pairings and champagne, and live piano entertainment on top of that! That was exceptional. The service was really great and everyone was so friendly. That was indeed a very memorable meal.
How was it driving a Volvo?
Driving was excellent—my husband did all of it. Our C30 was very comfortable and the navigation system was good. We were impressed that the car alerted us with a click sound every time we approached a speed camera.
Would you recommend the Volvo Overseas Delivery program to friends and family?
Oh yes! We were very impressed by their program. In fact, I have been spreading the word that that is one way you can travel to Sweden for free: Order a new Volvo!
So my final question: Was it the “road trip of a lifetime”?
Haha, absolutely! We haven’t traveled much before, so it was so good to see how beautiful the world is and how well taken care of your nation is. I am putting out the word that going to West Sweden is the trip of a lifetime! Thank you for the whole experience.
